Easy Curtain Idea {and an ETSY update}
Seriously, this is the easiest curtain fix ever…It was like a light bulb epiphany moment. This week has been crazy busy for me personally, so I apologize if any of you reading this are a little bored by my *genius* curtain solution. I do however, have an announcement that I will share at the end of this post, which should also explain why this week my DIY projects took a hiatus.
So, anyone with dogs knows that they constantly need to go potty outside…or play outside…or bark outside… A commercial comes to mind where the dogs should be renamed “In” and “Out”. The way our back door is situated right next to a large window caused some frustration for me every time the dogs were let out. The curtain I hung was constantly getting blown outside and getting caught in the door. Not only was it annoying, but it was ruing my curtain too! Without physically tying the curtain to the wall I thought I’d mount some metal hold-backs to the wall, but that only helped slightly.
This is what our curtain looked like before my wonderful idea and without me being OCD about tucking and folding it behind the hold-back every time it blew outside.
Close-up of dirt from being slammed in the door repeatedly.
For months I kept telling myself I was going to fix this, but I couldn’t find exactly what I needed. Finally at Walmart (of course) I saw this industrial strength Velcro. However, it said “not for use on fabric”. I figured, why not… At the worst if it failed, I could resort to sewing it in place.
I cut a small square of velcro and attached it to itself first (the best practice when applying sticky backed velcro). Then I peeled off the protective sheet exposing the sticky side on the “fuzzy” velcro. I stuck this to the backside of the curtain, right where the hold-back is positioned on the wall. Last, I peeled off the protective sheet for the “scratchy” velcro and smashed in on the wall by pushing from the opposite side of the curtain.
Awesome. Purely awesome. The curtain stayed and there was no chance of the velcro pulling off the fabric and no fabric stuck in the door. Hoorah! I love it when a solution takes 5 minutes and prevents hours of problems to come. 🙂
Okay so now that you’ve seen my awesome curtain fix (I know, I am so smart) I want to share with you that I have officially launched my ETSY store! Yea! This is not a shameless plug (well maybe)…however, I am proud to say that I have my shop officially up and running. So, I may only have a handful of things for sale right now, BUT I still have a ton of things to add (and I am uploading them daily so check back often). My plans are to sell printables, organizing materials and supplies, some photography, and a few arts and crafts. So go ahead, check it out! 🙂
