Organizing DVD’s and CD’s can be a time consuming project. Washi Tape has made this task a little more bearable for me though. My fiance and I have collected tons of CD’s over the years, as I am sure many of you have, but with him being a music teacher we seem to keep acquiring them. For me, this project focused on CD’s but the same organization could be applied to DVD’s.
I bought these nifty little CD/DVD drawers some time ago from Staples, but they were far underutilized. I did not like the labels that came with the system at all. So, I decided to take out all the labels leaving me with just the CD/DVD jackets.
With the jackets prepped and ready to go I grabbed some bright blue Washi Tape. This stuff is great. If you haven’t ever used it you need to. For projects where your labels may change often, this is the stuff to use. It sticks to almost anything and it removes easily without leaving a residue. Plus, you can write directly on it with a Sharpie.
I covered the edge of each sleeve with Washi Tape and began putting my CD’s inside the sleeves.
Once I had them all labeled it was time to start organizing them in my CD drawers, I purchased these CD / DVD dividers online by Vaultz. They make it really easy to sort your titles, plus they’re laminated and pretty durable. You could make your own if you want with card stock too. Simply stick the CD sleeves behind the appropriate letter and file away!
Once the CDs were filed away I decided I needed to label the contents of each drawer since A-Z would not fit in one drawer. I grabbed some Martha Stewart Book Labels that are self adhesive and put them on the front of each drawer. I used some more Washi Tape to make the label pretty and colorful.
Ta-Da! Project Complete! I couldn’t be more excited looking at my organized CD drawers. They make me smile. 🙂
Right now my DVDs are in a cabinet, but we have so many that we’re running out of room even with having some of them stacked. I suggested downsizing and my husband suggested keeping everything but putting them in one of those binders. I like to organize by alphabet and binders would result in a lot of wasted time every time I want to add new ones. This looks like a good compromise, although I also like to have the DVD inserts so I’ll need to look for sleeves and cases big enough for that. 😀
